A St Thomas cop has been found not guilty for the murder of a pregnant woman in 2012.
Corporal Dwayne Smart, who shot and killed a pregnant woman in St Thomas has been found not guilty of murder.
A seven-member jury also found Smart not guilty of wounding with intent in connection with the shooting of the dead woman’s sister as she came to the defence of her sibling.
It is alleged that Smart shot and killed Lamont following a tussle after he accosted her over the use of expletives. She was allegedly shot in the head twice.
Prosecutors led evidence that Kayann Lamont, who was eight months pregnant at the time, was shot in the head by Smart as she resisted his attempts to arrest her for using indecent language.
However, Smart, through his attorney Valerie Neita Robertson, argued that the shooting was accidental.
