PNP Wins Greater Portmore North By-Election

Today’s By-Election held in the Greater Portmore North Division has been won by the People’s National Party.

The PNP candidate Accountant Gary Nicholson won the crucial seat, thus ensuring that the party maintains control of the St Catherine Municipal Corporation.

Nicholson polled 2,125 votes to the 995 by his Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) contender Ann Lewis.

The PNP had won the corporation 21-20 in the local government election.

But the sudden death of its Greater Portmore North Councillor Michael Edwards, the seat count was left tied.

Voter turnout was just over 22.39 per cent.
